The Maltese national selections taking part at the 2025 Nations Cup in Bridlington enjoyed a very positive day on Wednesday.
The result of the day belonged to the men’s team who managed to secure a thrilling 13-12 victory over tournament favourites Scotland.
With this win, the team led by Clevion Micallef advanced into the knock-out stages of the competition and will fancy their chances of going deep into the tournament.
Earlier in the day, Malta A showed their supremacy when they eased past Shetland 21-4 to rubberstamp second place in the standings.
In the singles competition, Leon Azzopardi was again victorious as he moved into the semi-finals of the tournament when he knocked out Scott Anderson 5-2.
On Thursday night, Azzopardi will be up against Stuart McCulloch for a place in the final.
Shaun Attard failed to join Azzopardi in the latter stages of the singles competition when he was eliminated in the Last 16.
Attard was beaten by Graeme Sillars 5-1.
In the other matches from the team competition Malta B beat Ireland 18-7 while Malta’s Seniors A team overcame Ireland A 14-11.
However, Malta B were beaten by Scotland B1 16-9.
