There is strong anticipation for the return of the Maltese national teams that took part in the European Blackball Championships in the town of Ennis, Ireland. The Maltese contingent, led by president Philip Gatt, is due to arrive back in Malta on a direct flight from Dublin at around 8:30 p.m.
On the final day of the 2025 European Blackball Championships, Malta secured three additional gold medals, including a victory for the Maltese pair Steven Muscat and Nordai Desira in the Under-23 Doubles event.
In the Under-15 European final, the National Team coached by Robert Attard claimed an 8–4 win over Northern Ireland.
In the Over-40 Seniors European final, the National Team led by Darren Micallef delivered an outstanding performance, overpowering the reigning European and World Champions, England, with a commanding 13–1 scoreline. The result marked a historic moment for Malta, as it earned the country its first-ever title in this category.
The final highlight of the day came in the Men’s Singles. After the disappointment of the Men’s Team A losing their final against England, Mevrick Zammit carved his name into European Blackball history by defeating Anthony Monarch 7-5, securing his first European title.
Around 1200 players participated in these games. These were ten intensive days for the Maltese players who, despite the challenges, gave everything they had and reaffirmed that Maltese Blackball continues to stand at the highest level.
