Watch: Malta Blackball win three gold medals at the Nations Cup

The Malta Blackball national teams enjoyed a highly successful showing at the 2026 Nations Cup, returning home with three gold medals.

The men's seniors blackball national team won the gold medal at the 2026 Nations Cup.

The Maltese selections produced a strong showing in various categories, underlining their status as a growing force in European blackball.

Chris Tabone won Malta’s first gold medal at the championships when he won the seniors singles category.

In the final, Tabone overcame the challenge of Scottish player Graham Dunbar 7-5 to become the first Maltese player to win this category.

On his way to the final, Tabone overcame James Edmonds 5-2 and then had the better of Grant Smith in the final four.

The men’s national team completed a flawless run in the tournament as they won all the matches they played.

In the tournament final, Malta had the better of Scotland 13-11.

The national team selection was formed by Clayton Castaldi, Wayne Pace, Johan Attard, Mevrick Zammit, Miguel Amato, Lydan Debono and Gary Carr.

 The U-23 selection emulated their senior counterparts as they took the gold medal in their category.

The team was led by coach Duncan Edwards and formed by Nick Muscat, Nordai Desira, Casdy Vella, Steven Muscat, Chaylon Castaldi and Matthias Debono, demonstrated the promising future of Maltese blackball.

In the final, they defeated Scotland 13–8, with a standout performance from Casdy Vella.
