The Malta Under-15 national team produced one of the most remarkable comebacks at the European Blackball Championships in Ennis, Ireland, after defeating England 8-7.
The team formed by Jake Castaldi, Denzel Falzon, Dielyn Edwards, and Nick Muscat was trailing 7-2 but displayed impressive courage, confidence, and determination to turn the score in their favour.
With this victory, Malta U-15 now sit top of the standings with 18 points and have secured a place in the semi-finals, having earlier defeated Northern Ireland 13-2.
Meanwhile, it was another day of success for other Maltese teams.
In the Seniors B category, Malta recorded victories of 13-12 against Scotland and 17-8 against Belgium.
In the singles competition, there were more positive results for Malta.
Mevrick Zammit beat Jack Carson 5-0 while Clint Azzopardi overcame Richie Oliver 5-3. Clayton Castaldi overcame Adam Giddy 5-2, while Chaylon Castaldi defeated Cohen Bradford 5-4.
Neil Caruana whitewashed Adam Cole 5-0, while Wayne Pace had the better of Jon Roberts 5-2.
Sam Bennett beat Miguel Amato 5-3, while Clayton Attard secured a 5-2 victory over Charlie Begley.
In the team competitions, Malta Men’s B side beat Catalonia 17-8, but then suffered identical 14-11 defeats to Ireland and Scotland.
The Malta Seniors A team impressed with a 16-9 win over Belgium and 15-10 over Scotland, while the Malta Men’s A side also shone with a 17-8 victory against Northern Ireland.
In the Grand Masters category, Malta lost 13-2 to Northern Ireland.
In the closing matches of the day, Liam Mifsud defeated Steven McCormick 5-3, and Matthias Debono edged past Brooklyn Chambers 5-4.
