The Malta Pool national team secured an historic achievement when they won the World Team Shootout Event after defeating defending champions Wales 5-4 in the final on Monday night.
It was a solid performance from the Maltese selection, formed by Miguel Amato, Owen Amato, Johan Attard, Clayton Castaldi, Lydan Debono, Dejan Grech, Ryan Pisani and Chris Zaffarese, who managed to keep the momentum going throughout the final.
It’s a historic achievement for Malta, who have finally lifted the trophy after suffering three consecutive final defeats in the World Team Shootout.
It was sweet revenge for the Maltese team, who managed to beat all three teams that had previously beaten them in Shoot-Out finals all in one day.
In fact, they took down 2022 champions Ireland in the quarter-finals, then had the better of 2023 winners Northern Ireland in a thrilling semi-final, and then overcame holders Wales in the final
Clayton Castaldi was the team’s X-Factor, winning decisive frames in both the semi-final and the final.
