Mark Borg appointed UEFA Delegate for Futsal Euro 2026 Finals

Malta Futsal Association president, Mark Borg, has been appointed as a UEFA delegate for the 2026 UEFA Futsal European Championship Finals, a prestigious role that reflects positively on both Maltese futsal and Maltese sport as a whole.

Latvia, Lithuania and Slovenia are currently hosting the tournament.

Borg has been assigned responsibility for Group D, which features Italy, Hungary, Poland, and reigning champions Portugal. All matches in this group will be staged in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

In his capacity as UEFA delegate, Borg will oversee the overall organisation of the matches, ensuring that all aspects comply with UEFA regulations and standards.

His responsibilities include supervision of venue infrastructure, medical services, venue operations, and general match organisation, working closely with an experienced and highly structured UEFA team.

This appointment represents the first time a Maltese official has been entrusted with such a high-profile role at the final stages of a European futsal championship, marking an important milestone for the Maltese futsal community.

Borg has served as president of the Malta Futsal Association for the past 13 years and has previously been involved in several international fixtures and mini-tournaments, including UEFA Champions League matches, European competitions and World Cup-related events.

However, this is his first appointment at the final stage of a major UEFA futsal tournament, highlighting the confidence placed in his professional expertise and experience.

Part of his role also includes acting as a liaison between participating teams and UEFA, addressing any day-to-day operational matters to ensure the smooth running of the competition.

Commenting on his appointment, Borg described the role as a great honour, not only for himself but also for the Malta Futsal Association, the Malta Football Association and Maltese sport in general.

He noted that futsal in Malta continues to earn growing respect at international level, further strengthened by the recent appointment of Dr Paris to the UEFA Futsal Committee.
