Swieqi Phoenix Nium were crowned Malta volleyball champions for the fourth time in their club history after defeating Flyers in their clash at the Cottonera Sports Complex on Sunday.
Swieqi were on top throughout their clash against Flyers and coasted to a convincing 3-0 victory.
The league leaders started strongly, winning the first set 25-13. Flyers tried to make a fight out of it, but Swieqi remained in control as they won the second set 25-18 before wrapping up the win when taking the third 25-22.
With this win, Swieqi, who are led by Leonard Zammit Munroe and Justin Montesin, have been mathematically crowned as champions.
In the second match of the day, Falcons overcame the challenge of Paola Executive Security 3-1.
Falcons surged into a two-set lead when taking the opener 25-16 and the next 25-21.
However, Paola fought back in the third to take it 25-22.
Falcons still kept their poise and sealed their win when taking a fourth 25-20.
In the overall standings, Swieqi are leading the way on 25 points, seven clear of Falcons. Flyers are third on 15, while Birkirkara have amassed nine points. Paola Executive Security are sitting at the bottom of the standings with two points.
