Birkirkara see off Flyers in hard-fought women’s Super League encounter

Swieqi Phoenix Nium strolled to a comfortable win over Paola Executive Security.

Birkirkara and Flyers delivered an enthralling encounter in the women’s Super League at the Cottonera Sports Complex last weekend.

Birkirkara came out on top 3-2 in this balanced encounter that needed all five sets to be played to decide a winner.

The first set turned out to be a real tight affair, with Birkirkara coming out on top 29-27.

Flyers fought back in the second set and managed to level the match when taking it 26-24.

The match maintained its tit-for-tat format with Birkirkara taking the third 25-22 and Flyers responding in the fourth when prevailing 25-21 and force a decider.

Here, it was Birkirkara who kept their cool to win the fifth and final set 15-10.

In the second match, newly-crowned champions Swieqi Phoenix Nium beat bottom-placed Paola Executive Security 3-0.

The Swieqi side were all over their opponents as they strolled to the first three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-9.

Super League: Birkirkara vs Flyers 3-2 (29-27, 24-26, 25-22, 21-25, 15-10); Swieqi Phoenix Nium vs Paola Executive Security 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-9).

Under 17: Depiro vs Flyers 3-2 (18-25, 25-18, 19-25, 25-22, 15-10); Birkirkara vs Swieqi Phoenix BNR 0-3 (15-25, 10-25, 14-25); Paola Maypole vs Flyers 2 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-16); Phoenix Volley Maniacs vs Falcons 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-23).
