Swieqi Phoenix Nium completed a memorable league and cup double when they defeated Falcons in the National Cup final at the Cottonera Sports Complex on Sunday.
Swieqi, who are currently under the guidance of Leonard Zammit Munro and Justin Montesin, produced a very strong performance to see off Falcons 3-0.
In the opening set, Swieqi quickly seized control as they raced into the lead when taking the first set 25-13.
Falcons looked rattled and Swieqi kept their stranglehold on the match as they quickly wrapped up the second set 25-12 before going on to seal the win when taking the third 25-13.
At the end of the match, Malta Volleyball Association president, Branko Vlahovic, presented the trophy to the Swieqi clan.
Sunday’s victory rounds up an incredible month for the team, during which the Swieqi Phoenix girls also secured mathematically the Superleague title, thus achieving an amazing season double of League and Cup successes.
In a statement, club president Orlando Bonnici congratulated the team’s players and coaches, while expressing gratitude to team sponsors NIUM for their generosity and loyalty over these past five years.
