The Malta Volleyball Association season continued last weekend when the two semi-finals of the National Cup were played at the Cottonera Sports Complex.
Falcons and Paola Executive Security booked their place in the final after thrilling victories over Birkirkara and Swieqi Phoenix NIUM.
Paola Executive Security created the biggest upset of the weekend when they came from behind to stun league champions Swieqi Phoenix NIUM 3-2.
It looked as though Swieqi were cruising into the final when they surged into a two-set lead. They won the opening set 25-14 and moved within one set of victory when securing the second 25-13.
But the Paola side refused to throw in the towel and stunned their more-quoted opponents when they managed to force the decider when taking the next two sets 25-21 and 25-20.
Swieqi looked rattled and Paola went on to complete the upset when taking the decider 15-12.
In the other semi-final, the Falcons found themselves a set behind when Birkirkara took the opener 25-20.
But Falcons hit back strongly when taking the next three sets 25-4, 25-17, and 25-13 and complete a 3-1 win.
