Buoyed by their victory in the National Cup, Falcons maintained their strong run of form when they overcam the challenge of Swieqi Phoenix Nium 3-2 at the Cottonera Sports Complex.
The Falcons side came into the match in high spirits after last week’s triumph in the final series against Paola Executive Security to lift the National Cup.
Branko Nisevic’s girls were aware of the tough challenge awaiting them against the reigning champions and found themselves behind when losing a tight first set 25-23.
The Falcons fought back and managed to turn the game around when taking the second set 25-20 and level the match before moving one set away when taking the third set 25-20.
But Swieqi refused to throw in the towel and they cantered through in the fourth set 25-16 and force a decider.
Falcons recovered their poise in the fifth set as they cruised home 15-9 and secured a thrilling 3-2 win.
In the other top-flight match played last weekend, Birkirkara eased past Paola Executive Security 3-0.
The women’s Super League is taking a month’s break to make way for the national team’s commitments in the CEV Small Countries Association Women’s Championship.
Here Malta will be up against Ireland, Scotland, and Northern Ireland between April 12 and 13 at the Cottonera Sports Complex.
The National League will now resume on April 28 when Birkirkara VC take on Flyers while Paola Executive Security take on Falcons.
