The young stars of Swieqi Phoenix Volleyball were crowned U15 national champions after winning their last match, allowing them to finish the league unbeaten, and without losing a single set.
This is the eighth year in a row that the club has claimed the national U-15 title, ever since the first breakthrough success in season 2014-15.
This year’s team was composed of Jana Kenkovski (captain), Alisa Katric, Louise Camilleri, Leah Buhagiar, Leanne Spiteri, Alessia Basile Spagnol and Keira Bonello.
Technical Director Leonard Zammit Munro praised the Young Stars girls and the U15 coaching team, including Justin Montesin, Jacques Seifert, Martha Curmi and Ryan Vella.
Zammit Munro also remarked on the great season of the club’s other four U15 teams.
He explained that although the club has now established itself among the best also at senior level (the Ixaris senior team won the Super Cup and the National Cup this season, and ended runners up in the National Superleague), “the club’s vocation remained very closely tied to its work at junior level.”
Club president Orlando Bonnici thanked the junior teams’ sponsors and stated that it was also “thanks to the constant backing of companies like these that the club can continue investing in its successful nursery, and claim the title of being ‘Malta’s leading volleyball club.”
He also thanked the MVA for its work in enhancing the level of national competitions at junior level.
