Swieqi Phoenix Nium overcame the challenge of Super League front runners Falcons 3-2 in a thrilling encounter at the Cottonera Sports Complex.
Defending champions Swieqi started brightly and they took the first set 25-22.
Falcons fought back and took the second set with the same identical scoreline but Swieqi were back in front taking the third 25-19.
Falcons kept fighting and took the match into a decider when taking fourth set 25-17.
But in the tie-breaker, Swieqi were in control to take the set 15-9 and the match 3-2.
Despite this defeat, Falcons remained on course to win the league title as they are currently leading the way with 25 points, three ahead of Swieqi but the league leaders have two games in hand.
Flyers strengthened their grip on third place when they beat Mġarr 3-1.
Flyers were off to a flier taking the opening two sets with an identical 25-15 scoreline.
Mġarr fought back in the third set and handed themselves a lifeline when winning 25-23.
The Flyers soon regained control of the match, taking the fourth set 25-18 to seal a 3-1 win.
In the U-17 category, Depiro Blue were crowned champions after they beat Paola Maypole 3-0.
At the end of the match, Malta Volleyball Association president Branko Vlahovic presented the trophy and medals to the Depiro players.
