Champions Swieqi Phoenix Nium were back to winning ways as they brushed aside Birkirkara 3-0 in the only match from the Super League played at the Cottonera Sports Complex last weekend.
The Swieqi side were determined to bounce back from last week’s shock defeat to Flyers and they certainly turned on the style against Birkirkara as they roared to a commanding victory.
Swieqi, under the charge of Leonard Zammit Munro, were always in control winning the first three sets, 25-8, 25-11 and 25-13.
In the only Division One match played on Saturday, leaders Paola Executive Security, led from the touchline by Antonio Borg, overcame Depiro’s challenge 3-0.
Despite the defeat, the Depiro side, formed by many young players, produced a resilient performance against their more-quoted opponents.
But in the end, it was Depiro who coasted through taking the opening three sets, 25-15, 25-23 and 25-11.
