Flyers stun champions Swieqi Phoenix Nium in women’s Super League

Swieqi Phoenix Nium’s hopes of retaining their Super League title were rattled last weekend after they suffered an unexpected defeat at the hands of Flyers.

The clash between Swieqi and Flyers was the only match from the Super League on schedule last weekend at the Cottonera Sports Complex.

Flyers maintained their positive run of form with a stunning 3-1 win over Swieqi Phoenix Nium.

The opening two sets were very balanced with neither side seemingly taking an edge but in the end, Flyers managed to sneak both with an identical 25-23 scoreline.

Swieqi started to regroup in the third set and they gave themselves a lifeline when taking it 25-20.

However, that turned out to be a temporary reprieve for Swieqi as Flyers took the initiative in the fourth set to take it 25-18 and seal a 3-1 victory.

With this win, the Flyers continued to close the gap on second-placed Swieqi in the overall standings.

The Falcons are leading the way on 24 points, nine clear of Swieqi who are in second place on 15 points while Flyers are third on 12 points.

RESULTS

Under-15 League: Falcons vs Phoenix 0-3; Flyers vs Depiro 3-1.

Under-17: Falcons vs Flyers 0-3; Phoenix Volley Maniacs vs Birkirkara Storms 1-3.

Under-19: Phoenix vs Flyers 3-0.

First Division: Birkirkara vs Phoenix 3-0.

Super League: Flyers vs Swieqi Phoenix Nium 3-1.
